Slope of Green

Around the San Francisco bay Area (Silicon Valley), the hillsides have two personalities. During summer, these rounded slopes east of San Jose dry out and are a lifeless brown.

Yet in winter, almost overnight, they turn a deep emerald as the rains begin to fall.

On the road leading up to Mt. Hamilton, overlooking San Jose, we look back down into a valley, and see the kind of lighting and colors that inspired the California artist, Eyvind Earle.
